India's victory came as they triumphed over Sri Lanka by 19 runs in a thrilling final. Opener Smriti Mandhana played a pivotal role, contributing a valiant 46 runs off 45 balls against the spinners. Fast bowler Titas Sadhu's impressive new-ball performance further bolstered India's success.
Opting to bat first, India encountered early setbacks with the loss of opener Shafali Verma. However, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues displayed resilience, forming a crucial 73-run partnership for the second wicket. The duo's nine boundaries and a six set the tone for India's innings. Despite a late collapse, India managed to post a target of 117 runs.
In response, Sri Lanka struggled against India's bowling attack. Titas Sadhu's remarkable burst at the start saw her claim three crucial wickets. Although Sri Lanka's Hasini Perera and Nilakshi de Silva attempted to rebuild the innings, wickets fell at regular intervals. Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up two wickets, while Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, and Devika Vaidya each contributed with a wicket. Sri Lanka concluded their innings at 97 for eight in 20 overs, securing a historic gold for India.
